Advocacy Visit to HRH Alhaji Umar Faruq Bahago, CON - The Emir of Minna
On arrival at the Emir’s palace, the ISERT team was cordially received. His Royal Highness was briefed about ISERT and what FLHE entails including assertiveness, self-esteem, abstinence, self-confidence, drug abuse and other corporate life skills. He was also briefed on the need for FLHE especially in a technological era in which a lot of young people have access to the internet and are exposed to so many explicit materials. The ISERT national evaluation research and its findings were discussed some of which included cultural/religious barriers, lack of political will, lack of funding, little or no commitment as a result of which the team was enlightening stakeholders on FLHE and organized zonal workshops to that effect.
Responding to the team, His Royal Highness said, “I am pleased to have you in the palace. All the explanations you have given are appreciated and well understood. The palace is happy with the programme and we have learnt. In fact, FLHE has started from the palace. We need the young people to have positive self-esteem. It will help all of us. Before you came, I received some boys who have denounced violence and drugs, and who have pledged their loyalty. We are really challenged to do more”.
The advocacy visit was aired on radio Minna where the broadcast was done in both Hausa and English language, courtesy of the Emir.
